At SMAIR Club this week, we kept things straightforward but effective. Our attention? Ensuring that each student had the resources necessary to approach upcoming projects with curiosity, competence, and readiness.
We invested time in assisting our junior and senior high school pupils with the installation of the software that will enable them to realize their ideas. Although it wasn't glamorous, it was significant.
Because being able to configure your own tools? That alone is a skill

In the meantime, PictoBlox, a vibrant, kid-friendly coding platform that teaches fundamental programming concepts in an engaging and simple manner, was presented to our younger students.
Students at our Forthright campus collaborated in small groups, exploring the fundamentals of the platform and assisting one another with the installation process. Peer support was evident as children leaned over to lend a helping hand, described steps in their own words, and shared in each "it works!" moment.
Many of them had never set up anything technical on their computers before. And they were spot on.
Getting Started with Embedded Systems
The Arduino IDE, a programming tool that our older students use to control microcontrollers, the brains behind many of their projects, was presented to them.
We let them take the initiative rather than simply guiding them through the process. After installing the software on their individual computers, each student followed the directions, asked questions, and supported one another. It was admirable to watch them take charge of their education as well as the process.
Yes, there were times when things didn’t go as planned with the installation. However, there were also quiet satisfactions, giggles when someone figured out a solution, and smiles when things clicked.
That is the type of learning that endures.
What Actually Occurred
Yes, software setup was the focus of the week. However, in reality, it was about more than that.
The key was to learn how to try.
How to obey directions.
How to exercise patience.
And how to help one another when things don't work out the first time.
Each student left this week not only with a new computer program but also with a little more self-assurance and a better grasp of how the tools they'll be using actually operate.
We are so proud of the way they arrived.
Our pupils are more than prepared for what lies ahead as we lay the groundwork for exciting things to come.
We appreciate you joining us on this journey.
