What Our Young Innovators Have Been Up To

If you read our last blog post, you already know that something amazing is happening inside our classrooms. With just a few weeks under their belts, our students were already building smart dustbins and water level indicators projects that blended creativity, teamwork, and hands-on engineering.

Now, we’re back with more stories of progress, growth, and proud moments from the SMAIR AI & Robotics Club.

👩🏾‍💻 Wrapping Up the Smart Dustbin Project

This past week marked the conclusion of the Smart Dustbin project and what a finish it was.

Our students worked in groups to assemble and finalise their project. Each team focused on a different component of the project.

Some students worked on the ultrasonic sensor nicknamed “the eyes” which detects when someone approaches the bin. Others focused on the servo motor arm that lifts the lid automatically.

Together, they transformed individual parts into a working, automated solution.

What stood out most was how deeply they understood what they were building. These weren’t just “follow the steps” tasks. They were making real-time decisions, asking insightful questions, and seeing how engineering, coding, and teamwork come together in the real world.

🚀 Real Moments, Real Growth

Alongside the projects, we track each child's growth across key areas like creativity, teamwork, and focus.

Here’s what we saw across two different groups of children this past week:

  • Over 90% of participants were highly active and engaged, showing real enthusiasm from start to finish

  • Most children demonstrated strong collaboration and problem-solving skills

  • Creativity was high across the board, with many suggesting design ideas and personalising their builds

  • A significant number showed signs of emerging leadership, helping their peers, speaking up during group work, and taking initiative

We’re not just seeing future engineers in the room. We’re seeing confident, curious young leaders taking shape.

One of the most moving moments this week came when a quiet child, previously hesitant to speak, stood up and explained how their group used “the eyes” to make the lid move.

These are the moments that stick with us.

They’re not just participating, they’re taking charge. They know the parts, the purpose, and the process behind what they’ve built. And they’re proud to show it.

🕵 Looking Ahead

We’re just getting started. With new projects already planned out, we’ll be introducing more challenges that push our students to solve problems and test their creativity.

Every session is designed to build not only technical skills, but leadership, teamwork, and creativity.

We’re so excited about the path ahead and more importantly, we’re proud of how far our students have come in such a short time.

😋 Want Your Child to Be Part of This?

We host weekly sessions every Saturday at the AI & Robotics Innovation Hub in collaboration with SMAIR Foundation.

If your child is curious about technology, enjoys building things, or thrives in creative, hands-on environments. This is the perfect place to explore and grow.
